Our Mission

Fair Chance Alliance is a Vermont-based nonprofit expanding access to high-quality recovery coach training.

We are the home of Vermont’s CCAR (Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery) training programs, including the Recovery Coach Academy and Ethical Considerations for Recovery Coaches. These evidence-based trainings prepare individuals to support people in recovery through connection, accountability, and community.

Our focus is simple: make recovery coach training accessible to anyone who wants to support recovery.

Historically, this training has been primarily available through recovery centers and funded through state systems. We believe it should be available more broadly—to nonprofits, community organizations, healthcare providers, employers, and individuals who are committed to supporting people in recovery.

To do this, we work to bring together:

  • Public funding through the Vermont Department of Health (DSU)

  • Grants focused on recovery and workforce development

  • Private donations

  • Course fees for individuals and organizations without sponsorship

By expanding access to this training, we strengthen the network of people equipped to support recovery across Vermont.

Looking ahead, Fair Chance Alliance aims to partner with businesses, social enterprises, and nonprofit organizations to support individuals in recovery in gaining and sustaining employment—connecting recovery coaching with real economic opportunity.

Everyone in recovery has a story—and no one should have to navigate it alone.

The path to stability—recovery, housing, employment, and wellbeing—can be complex and overwhelming. What makes the difference is having someone who understands, listens, and walks alongside that journey.

Fair Chance Alliance exists to prepare people to be that support. Through recovery coach training, we equip individuals and organizations with the skills to meet people where they are and help them move forward.

HOW (the solution)

Fair Chance Alliance expands access to recovery coach training through a focused, high-quality training model and a commitment to broad community participation.

Training Delivery
We provide CCAR (Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery) authorized training, including:

  • Recovery Coach Academy (RCA)

  • Ethical Considerations for Recovery Coaches

  • Additional CCAR curriculum as appropriate

These trainings prepare individuals with the skills, principles, and ethical foundation needed to effectively support people in recovery.

Expanding Access
We work to ensure that recovery coach training is available beyond traditional recovery settings by:

  • Partnering with recovery centers, nonprofits, and community organizations

  • Offering open-enrollment trainings for individuals

  • Providing pathways for organizations and employers to train their staff

  • Creating opportunities for those without organizational sponsorship to participate

Funding the Work
To make this training accessible, we bring together multiple funding sources:

  • Public funding (including Vermont Department of Health – DSU)

  • Grants focused on recovery and workforce development

  • Private donations

  • Participant fees when sponsorship is not available

Looking Ahead
We are actively working toward developing partnerships with businesses, social enterprises, and nonprofit organizations to integrate recovery coaching with employment—supporting individuals in recovery as they enter and sustain meaningful work.
